Professional Engineers have many unique tasks and challenges and are answerable to multiple stakeholders – some with varying agendas and goals, hidden or not. While technical knowledge and expertise are indeed two of the main ingredients of an engineer’s overall success, professional ethics is paramount. As a registered professional engineer, one’s legal & ethical conduct and actions can oftentimes far outweigh a successful design or a project.

This session will focus on the principles of professional engineering ethics, and will include specific examples and the practical application of ethical principles, including:

  • What is professional engineering ethics, why is it important, and does it really matter?
  • What is the ethics smell test?
  • The impacts of engineering ethics
  • Ethics required for expert witnesses
  • Examples of ethical cases and results
  • Ethics and AI

This session will focus on both the fundamental principles on which ethical practice is built and the practical application of these principles.

We hope you can join us!
