Laying the Groundwork for Tomorrrow
Tensar offers two geosynthetic interlayer systems that improve the performance of asphalt layers in new construction and pavement rehabilitation. The stress absorbing GlasGrid® Pavement Reinforcement System offers superior stiffness characteristics along with an open aperture to ensure through-hole bonding of asphalt layers. This unique combination of features makes the GlasGrid System the optimum choice for heavy- and medium-duty overlay projects in terms of performance and total life-cycle cost savings. The GlasPave® Waterproofing Paving Mat combines the waterproofing ability of a polyester mat with the high modulus of fiberglass netting to yield a cost-effective reflective crack mitigation solution for light- to medium-duty pavement overlay projects.
Fatigue and reflective cracking in pavements are typically caused by traffic loading, age hardening or temperature cycling. Conventional remedies have included the application of thicker asphalt overlays – a solution that addresses the problem only at the surface, and for a limited period of time. For each inch of applied overlay, reflective cracks are often assumed to be deterred from reaching the surface for a period of just one year.
A number of pavement interlayer systems address the challenges of reflective cracking caused by traffic loading, age hardening or temperature cycling in asphalt structures. These systems offer a cost-effective alternative to thicker asphalt overlays, which resolve the problem only at the surface, and for a shorter period of time. However, not all interlayer systems provide effective moisture barrier protection as well.
