Something a Little Different: Pavement, Passengers &... Pizza

by Tensar International, on Jul 26, 2018 4:58:16 PM

America’s D-grade transportation infrastructure is not good for cars, people or pizzas. Poor road conditions cost motorists $516 per year in repairs - according to the non-profit transportation research firm TRIP - not to mention the cost of time wasted in traffic due to bad roads.

And then there’s the cost of all the pothole-damaged pizzas. Domino’s Pizza recently introduced its “Paving for Pizza” promotion in which they pledge to donate funds to select municipalities to improve road conditions. We appreciate Domino’s efforts and share their concern. Of course, much more is needed to effect real change.

To improve America’s roadways, TRIP recommends road builders use longer-lasting pavement materials and designs, resurface roads more frequently and maintain an “aggressive pothole-patching program that uses the best material available.” To improve roadways, Tensar (and Beau, more on him later) recommends road builders use TriAx Geogrids under every road to create more sustainable infrastructure with lower maintenance requirements and costs. Tensar also recommends GlasGrid Systems that – when included in an asphalt overlay - becomes the hidden strength in the road, turning vertical crack stresses horizontally to effectively dissipate them.

Tensar recently introduced The King of the Road contractor, Beauregard “Beau” Benjamin whose mission – along with Tensar’s – is to lift America’s road infrastructure to A+ status. This summer, Beau has been on a “Where Beau Goes” North America tour to identify “challenged” roads as well as those built to last and, especially, to showcase the importance of putting TriAx under every road. “Tensar is a lot like Domino’s, except less crusty,” Beau said. “I’ve got a new slogan I’m pitching to the Tensar muckety-mucks. TriAx Geogrid: Protecting Public Infrastructure, Passengers and Pizza. Where Beau and Geogrid go, so go A+ highways and roads.”

Keep your eye out for “Where Beau Goes” to see what’s really happening in the field to improve America’s roads. And, grab a slice while you’re at it.
