In our last session, we uncovered why pavements fail too soon—whether it’s design flaws or unpredictable subgrade conditions. This time, we’ll show how a Mechanically Stabilized Layer (MSL) can boost reliability, reduce variability, and flip failure from bottom-up to top-down. It means smarter design and longer pavement life.
Topics that will be discussed include:
- Use of AASHTO '93 and AASHTO R-50 to design flexible pavements
- Design method incorporating modified layer-coefficients in the MSL with improved aggregate confinement and stiffer support for the asphalt
- How this technology in asphalt results in longer life and/or reduced component thickness
- How InterAx geogrid, the most advanced for trafficked surfaces, provides structural improvements
-
Use of Accelerated Pavement Testing and Automated Plate Load Testing to predict and verify design performance.
-
How Tensar+ software, incorporating APLT data, can be used for pavement design
Future-Focused Roads Webinar Series:
This series will provide the overview of many improvements in the way we construct roads, measure road performance, maintain roads and the data collection that allows these improvements to be utilized by the asset owners.
